We need to change some of the core paradigms of UX
What is Sustainable UX?
SUX is the approach to design sustainable digital products by moving beyond user-centered design to an environmental and humanity centered design approach.
We focus so intensely on the needs of our users and try to align them with business needs that we completely overlook who or what else is affected by our designs. Every product always has a larger systemic context. There are always additional actors (human and non-human) involved beside our users, direct or indirect.
We must stop designing solely for our users and instead always understand and review our work within the systemic context.
The SUX Network was founded in 2021 by a group of designers with the mission to transform UX to Sustainable UX and to make Sustainability default in the digital design process.

We have developed a bunch of tools and put it together to a framework at the moment - The Sustainable ¨UX Playbook. Besides we build up the public SUX resource database with tools, methods, articles for all design phases. The Playbook is released soon, meanwhile browse the resource database with more than 120 resources or submit your own tool to be added to the database.

Laura is a Design anthropologist, a systems thinker and a water advocate, running her own company called give a shit. We met for the first time I think 3 years ago and what really stuck to me was how Laura already back then had dedicated her design work to water, to nature and to regeneration. And therefore I am so happy that she joined me for this episode to talk especially about water and the impact to it by the digital world we design or use (and yes AI plays a huge part in that).
