Last year I wrote together with a group of people the first book about UX and Sustainability. This book is a guide for all designers who want to contribute to the sustainable development of systems, products, and services through User Experience (UX) Design. The foundation for this work was a comprehensive survey of UX designers on the topic of "Design for Sustainability." This survey helped capture the current status quo to develop forward-looking contributions and recommendations for action for the future. SUX Ambassor Ingo Waclawczyk is one of the authors of this chapter.
In further chapters we give recommendations for UX Design and Sustainability. Principles for action are developed based on the Principles of Sustainable UX and in Chapter 4 we show tools and practices to apply sustainability in UX Design. With the Sustainable User Journey Mapping and the Needs to Consequences Mapping, two tools from the upcoming SUX Playbook are also mentioned.
